Westcom Business Communications Ltd. Was tasked with designing and implementing a comprehensive Wi-Fi solution for the Little Canada site, with a focus on providing reliable, high-performance connectivity across the entire location.
By using Ekahau heat mapping to assess coverage needs, Westcom was able to create a robust, fail-safe network that would meet the client’s expectations.
Project Overview: The deployment involved installing 140 advanced wireless access points (APs) and 10 new network cabinets, along with extensive cabling and infrastructure upgrades. Below are the key components of the project:
Cabling Installation
The cabling was designed to meet or exceed CAT5e standards, ensuring stable and reliable connectivity. Cable routes were carefully planned and adjusted during installation to optimise performance.
Network Cabinets
We installed 10 new network cabinets at strategic locations to support the overall network infrastructure. Each cabinet was carefully selected and positioned for optimal network performance and easy access.
Fibre Links and Connectivity
For the fibre installation, we used existing centenaries and ducts, ensuring they were properly tested to support rodding, roping, and cable pulling. In areas where additional support was needed, short-length centenaries were used in low-impact zones, avoiding main walkways.
Wireless Connectivity Design
The Wi-Fi solution incorporated both point-to-point (PTP) and point-to-multipoint (PTMP) wireless links, utilising high-speed 60GHz PTP technology for seamless, across-park connections. Access points were primarily placed in communal areas like lounges to minimise disruption to guest rooms. In some cases, AP lights were turned off to further reduce any potential inconvenience.
End Outcome
The completed project successfully delivered a reliable and high-performance Wi-Fi solution, supporting both guest and corporate usage across the Little Canada site.
